Forgiveness is the linchpin of Transformative imagination.
There are many different forgiveness exercises we do in Transformative Imagination. The three points of view forgiveness exercise is a method of forgiveness which can be practiced by yourself.
It is based on the principle of “but for the grace of God, there go I.”
You first relax by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths and silently telling yourself “Relax… Go in deeper…” as you breath out slowly.
Next remember an event which involves someone else that you imagine has hurt you.
Now, use your imagination and put yourself in the place of the person who hurt you. In your imagination, see the event through the eyes of the other person (this is the second person’s point of view).
Note that we all do whatever we do given our resources (weaknesses often when we fail ourselves). So seeing the event from the others point of view, also note the other person’s weaknesses.
Really use your imagination and walk a mile in the other person’s moccassines.
Next, step out of the others head and review the event objectively. See the event from way above so that the event becomes smaller and less emotionally significant.
Imagine the event runs backwards as a movie running in reverse. Go backwards in time until you reach fifteen minutes before the event.
From this objective point of view and fifteen minutes before the event has happened, understanding a little about the others point of view -
forgive the other
Say silently, “I forgive you, bless you, and understand you did whatever you did, out of weakness. I let you go and set you free. I’m now free of the chains which bind us.”
Take a few more deep breaths and move into the first person position (looking at the event through your own eyes) and notice that the event is way less emotionally charged.
Hopefully even the first time you may be fully clear of the negative emotions. If not, do the exercise a few times more until you are fully clear.

Many years ago I was taking my Master’s degree in biochemistry at Imperial College in England under the Nobel Prize winner Sir Ernst B. Chain. A friend told me that there was this psychiatrist who needed research volunteers for some hypnosis work that he was doing.
We would get five pounds for being tested and if we passed we would go into a long term study and get even more money. I was a very inquisitive person at the time – thank God this has not changed – and would have done the test for free but a little extra pocket money was always welcome too.
So it was that we went to the offices of Dr. Stephen Black in Knightsbridge . The good doctor first demonstrated hypnosis on one of his patients. He was interested in psychosomatic effects in allergies. The lady in question was what he called a deep trance subject, meaning that she entered a deep state of hypnosis (trance) very easily. She was also allergic to a certain pollen.
As it happened a couple of days earlier we had studied the biochemistry of the immune system and allergies. It was so simple. It was a chemical reaction of adding a to b and getting c. The brain could not intervene in what was basically a local interaction at the site of the allergen entering the body and causing the allergic reaction.
Dr. Black hypnotized the lady and told her that he would place a drop of distilled water on her left arm and a drop containing the pollen she was allergic to on the right arm. Then he brought her out of the trance and placed a drop of distilled water on her right arm. Immediately there was a pink bump where the distilled water had been added. This did not surprise me. I could imagine how the brain could send signals to the capillaries of the skin to expand and mimic the allergic response.
Next the psychiatrist placed a drop of the allergen on the other arm. There was absolutely no reaction. OK this made no sense to me at all. As I have written we were taught that this was a two plus two makes four situation. But in this case two plus two made some other number – lets say zero. No redness, no bump, no itching skin, nothing.
At that moment I understood that there was much more to reality than my traditional Western education understood. I remained a scientist but started examining at other ways of looking at the world as well. I studied different alternative medicine and thoughts. I became an open minded skeptic. That’s to say I do not accept or reject anything out of hand without attempting to discover the truth.
The reality is that Western science works brilliantly and many alternative ways of thought are total nonsense either promoted by charlatans or ignorant well meaning people. I am not totally sure what is the difference. If an idea is wrong (especially if it is dangerous) it is wrong even if the proponent is well meaning.

Yesterday, I asked on the main Life Focus Center Blog, "What is failure? "
Here is the simple answer:
There’s no such thing as failure
Failure and success are simply words. They are attitudes you have to events. As Shakespeare , and the Stoic philosopher Epictetus said, events have no meanings in themselves but are given meanings (good/bad) by us. So of course if you call something as a failure it is so.
However, if you call the same event as a learning experience, you’ll learn from that event and that learning will lead to your eventual success. Thus we have all heard of Thomas Edison who said about his experiments to produce the electric light bulb, "I never failed. I succeeded in discovering thousands of methods which would not work. I knew if I continued I would run out of things which would not work and find those which would."
In NLP (neuro-linguistic programming – one of the sources of Transformative Imagination) we say, "There is no such thing as failure – only results."
When you have such an attitude toward life your ultimate success is assured. Imagine a todler learning to walk. The baby tries to get up and falls. And tries again and again and again and falls, and falls and falls. As parents do say the baby tried once and failed so that’s it? Or do you encourage the todler on each attempt.
Do you give up with your baby on the second, third, forth, fifth…. attempts? That’s why all babies (without organic problems) will learn to walk. They will be successful in walking. When you treat the baby within (we are all ruined babies – lost our innocence and not giving up) with encouragment, unconditional love, and a great positive attitude, your ultimate success is assured.
If you can walk (again assuming you had the body which could walk) then you have the brain power, stamina and self determination to succeed at anything that you can physically do (for example chances are if you are fifty, five five and unfit you will not be able to be an NBA start – but you may end up being a darn good basketball player for your age and height).
I think I better explain a little about the part above where I write about brain power. We take most things that we do for granted. In order to walk hundreds of muscles must move in a precise coordinated way. At the same time our visual system has to be in sync with our ballance system and sense of hearing…. And so on, and so on….
Just look at robots trying to walk and see how ungraceful they are and how much computing power they use and the walk a few feet and notice how wondrous it is that you walk so easily without a single thought.
And let’s face it how come you can walk, talk, eat, and do so many other things automatically?
You knew as baby:
There’s no such thing as failure…

Research on the power of imagination and meditation on the immune system has shown many times that meditation and visualization (use of your imagination in a transformative way) can improve your immune system.
In one research study thirty healthy students were divided into three groups. The choice was between:
- Working crossword puzzles
- Relaxation training
- Relaxation training and imagining their immune system being powerful
The immune system of the first group did not improve, that of second group improved slightly and that of the group using Transformative Imagination improved significantly after a single hour of imagining their immune system as more powerful.
In another research on "The effects of meditation and visual imagery on an immune system disorder": Dermatomyositis. Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine, 11(2), 275-284, the researchers demonstrated the efficacy of meditation and visual imagery in healing dermatomyositis by examining measures of arm strength and skin condition – rash and pain.
I have personally used Transformative Imagination to shorten the period of cold sore eruptions (herpes simplex II) on my face:
I suffer from bad cold sores (herpes simplex type II) three four times a year. In these cases I get an occurrence on one or both earlobes and eventually part of my scalp. When this happens my lymph glands swell and I am in great discomfort for about a week.
After a week or so the occurrence is over and my lymph nodes return back to their normal state, On this occasion however, I had just ended reading the Simonton book (Getting Well Again: The Bestselling Classic About the Simontons’ Revolutionary Lifesaving Self- Awareness Techniques ) and I decided to use the guided imagery techniques as described in the book.
I first would enter a light to medium trance using a rapid self-hypnosis induction. I, next, deepened my trance by the stair method and then started the guided imagery.
I visualized my white blood cells to be polo players with bright white uniforms and the herpes virus to be gray colored golf ball shaped objects. Whenever the polo players would hit the virus the crowd of onlookers would roar their approval and the virus would burst while in the air being thrown out of the polo field.
Simultaneously I gave a direct order to my body to increase the blood flow to my lymph node taking healing nutrition where ever my immune system needed. The outcome of this hypnosis/guided meditation treatment was that the whole episode lasted only three days and only one of my lymph nodes swelled and my level of discomfort was much lower than previous outbreaks.
Since then (about ten years ago) I have way fewer cold sore outbreaks.

I recently have been writing a series on meditation on different web sites. The reason I have used different websites is that some of the meditations like the "I am meditation ," belong to other blogs than the main Life Focus Center Blog .
"The infinity meditation" is a meditation which needs use to use your imagination and hence belongs to this site. This is based on a left-right brain balancing exercise .
First relax your self by closing your eyes and taking a deep breath in and exhaling slowly through the mouth. Do this a few times until you feel relaxed and peaceful.
Now, very slowly start moving your head so you draw tiny horizontal figure eights (the infinity sign) with your nose tip. Figure eight has no beginning and no end and thus represents infinity especially when made horizontal.
After a while, keeping your eyes closed imagine a purple light shooting out of your third eye (between your eyebrows and slightly above). Imagine this purple light being a super laser light which goes to infinity (this happens in your imagination – anything is possible – no Einstein’s theory of relativity – the light gets there instantaneously in your imagination) and paints an infinitely large purple infinity.
Continue for at least five minutes. At times the image may change or thoughts may intrude – you may notice your body itching or some other physical sensation….
When you notice that, go back to concentrating on and drawing the purple infinity….
This meditation will both balance the left-right hemispheres of your brain as well as bringing you in touch with the unity of being and consciousness.

This loving kindness exercise is quite easy and very powerful. Pink symbolises unconditional love and loving kindness. At the same time a basis of transformative imagination is relaxation….
Start relaxing yourself by sitting in a comfortable position, closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths in and relaxing while exhaling very slowly. As you allow your mind/body/soul/spirit relax imagine a pink light emanating from your heart.
Now, use your power of imagination to allow that pink light get larger and larger and stronger and stronger so it fills the whole of your body. Next imagine the pink light covering whatever or whoever you want to send loving kindness to.
These are some of the people, things and events you can send unconditional love to:
- Yourself – imgine a ball of pink light representing your higher self (or whatever else makes sense to your unconscious mind) receiving the pink light from you, amplifying the pink light, and then sending it back to you – engulfimh you with loving kindness and unconditional love.
- The world – this is to bring peace to the world – imagine a giant version of yourself sending the pink light to the world or imagine a small glob representing the world. Either way now now imagine the pink light surrounding the world and wish peace and unconditional love to all.
- A person you love – imagine the pink light emanating from your heart covering the person (or a pet) you love.
- A person you do not love (dislike) – same as above. This is a most powerful exercise. Sending loving kindness to an enemy is one of the best things you can do.
- A situation – this can be a job interview, the next day or any other event. By sending loving kindness you can make it better.

In my transformative imagination sessions (live one on one, in seminars, and on my audios) I do an exercise to protect you from negative suggestions given by anyone. It is a very powerful way of protecting yourself as most words coming to us (internal and external) are negative.
The news always tells us about things going wrong and perhaps a few times they have a heart warming snipet and we notice those as the exception. It is true that just now (end of May 2009) so many homes are being foreclosed on. But the news never interviews Mr. and Mrs. Jones whose house is totally safe and have a happy familly.
As far as internal talk is concerned, we do thousands of thing right every day. Thin about it if you move from one place to another (walking even only a few feet) there are hundreds of muscles which sucessfully move together synergistically for you to be able to walk. Same is true of talking, reading and all other things that we do successfuly all the time without noticing.
But God forbid if we do a slightly wrong (suboptimal dare I say) thing. Often we may have a go at ourselves and call ourselves names that if we called our children we’d be accused of child abuse.
I want to here and now accuse most other than the most enlightened people of self abuse . And, no that’s not self abuse – get your mind out of the gutter. Negative self talk is self abuse. Calling yourself stupid is self abuse.
As with all exercises mentioned on this site only do them at a time and place that you will not be disturbed and are not using any machinery. So read this first and then do the exercise:
Close your eyes and as you take a deep breath in imagine yourself as more relaxed that ever before. Pause for a few moment – allow your unconscious to let you know how long – and continue relaxing as you exhale slowly through your mouth.
Now, imagine a wonderful golden light of protection emanating from the center of your tummy (about three, four inches above your navel – this is your heart chakra or symbolic heart from which unconditional love comes). Using the power of your imagination, allow this golden light of protection get brighter and fill up the whole of your body and permeate out of your body forming a protective shield twelve inches all around your body.
Now, silently (or aloud if you are alone) say to yourself, "I alow my unconscious mind to use this protective shield to reject all negative suggestions whether they come from others or myself. This golden protective shield is with me all the time and protects me from negativity whether I realize it or not. Thank you…."
Now take another deep breath and as you exhale slowly enjoy your golden shield of protection by smiling and as you end your exhaltion open your eyes slowly and return to normal waking consciousness.
Do this exercise twice a day near when you wake up and near when you go to sleep for at least thirty days and you’ll fix the protective shield. After that you still may need some booster shots.

I just wrote a post on thankfulness in our main blog. In it I suggest you silently (or aloud if appropriate) thank each person you meet.
So let’s do a quick transformative imagination exercise to help you do this. Read the instruction and then immediately do it.
Close your eyes and take deep breath in and let it out slowly as you imagine yourself more relaxed than ever before. Count down from seven to one and with each count silently say to yourself, "I’m thankful for ________."
Now, take another deep breath and as exhale imagine you have the biggest smile on your face and silently count up from one to seven with each count saying silently, "Thank you ________."
And as you are doing this get in touch with the wonderful warm feeling of gratitude.
The whole thankfulness exercise takes less than two minutes and may change the whole of the rest of day to the better.
And I’m grateful that you are reading this.
Thank You!

My name is Javad Hashtroudian also known as DoctorJay (I have a doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy and one of my clients could not pronounce my name and started calling me DoctorJay).
I used to be a hypnotherapist. However, I noticed that most people did not understand what hypnosis is and imagined that they would “go under” or “go to sleep” and be under someone else’s control.
Whereas in reality all hypnosis or trance is self hypnosis and each day we naturally go through many different states of consciousness or many different trances. The other day I was in the gym’s sauna after a workout and a lady asked me about my profession and when I told her that I was a clinical hypnotherapist she said, “Woo, woo,” as she moved her hands back and forth in a Svengeli fashion.
I knew there and then I had to create a new term for the type of work I do. I noticed that most of my work one way or other involves the use of our imagination to change us for the better so the term Transformative Imagination came to mind.
And Here is the definition of Transformative Imagination:
A behavior modification technique developed by Dr. Javad Hashtroudian (DoctorJay) to use your imagination to change in the direction you desire. Transformative Imagination uses a host of techniques which include trance work, teaching stories and metaphors, releasing and forgiving designed to bring out your inner magnificence.
